I’ve never heard of those segments before. Probably because I’m a noob on Mecha-Ike’s fandom I guess.

I’ve also only seen clips of the first test on youtube…

Earlier on I would have agreed, especially with the March special but there seems to be a bit of stagnating in the ratings of late. Even last week’s Gaki beat last week’s Mechaike by 0.1%; obviously not much of a difference but it’s got a very poor timeslot compared to Mechaike. I think I saw someone say that this is the longest stretch that Mechaike has had with episodes that only draw in one-digit figures so it certainly needs a bit of a boost. What doesn’t help is when you’ve had so many breaks in between episodes (last 5 episodes, as you can see, were broadcast over a total of almost 2 months). Hard to gain momentum when this happens, so I think it’s poor programming decisions from Fuji TV management.

Generally in Japanese prime time (around 7pm to 10pm), if you draw double digit ratings consistently, you’re doing alright. If you draw single digits, there is a bit to be concerned, which is amped up if you string these results consecutively. Given Mechaike is one of Ninety-nine’s more popular programs, it is concerning if your single digit results start to pile up.

The reasons why there were so few episodes over the past month or so were probably due to the summer special episodes each show gets, and also to the world cup(Yabe and Kato went to Brazil to cover the world cup for two other tv stations)…
But single-digit ratings don’t seem to be good since Mecha-ike is in a primetime slot on a weekend…

This week’s episode is a 27 hour tv special, with the team battle vs SMAP.

Speaking of 27 hour tv, Mecha-ike has done the 27 hour tv twice before, in 2004 and in 2011; with main hosts being Ninety-nine and SMAP’s Nakai Masahiro.

Was the 27 hour special great? I only saw a bit of it before closing NIJI and forgot about it.

[quote="VideogameDC":2itu3x1v]Was the 27 hour special great? I only saw a bit of it before closing NIJI and forgot about it.[/quote:2itu3x1v]

For the Mechaike part, they had a swimming competition with all the male members of Mechaike and SMAP. Kimura apparently got himself hurt due to one of the Mechaike members (Sannaka I think his name is) and he’s copped a bit of flak since.

For Wide Na Show’s part, it was pretty much SMAP and the regulars (Matsumoto, Higashino, the female announcer) discussing various recent news items. There was also a bit of a mention of Mori, the 6th member of SMAP who quit early on in the group’s formation. There was also a good discussion between SMAP and the others on TV, ratings and the pressure the members feel with the expectations placed on him by the media when filming dramas.

I remmember I saw a bit of the Wide na Show, but since I don’t know japanese, I didn’t had any clue about what subject they were talking about.
I said earlier I saw other part where SMAP apparently played some roles about some themes with other guys, they weren’t the Mecha Ike guys, so I don’t have any clue about it too. I guess I’ll have to wait for the FNS 27 Hour special next year.

This year main personality was SMAP so teh whole 27h was related to them (here are the links - pls move this post if it’s not alright here.)

The contents of the annual 27 hour tv seems to really depend on who(and which show) get chosen as the main hosts(they have to do the whole 27 hours without sleeping :o )
Nakai Masahiro has been main host for the 27 hours tv a number of times since 1998.
Downtown has also been main hosts once, in 1997, centered around Hey hey hey.
Ninety-nine has been main hosts twice, with Nakai, centered around Mecha-ike.

I wonder who will be the next host for the FNS 27 hour special next year!

Is there any video of the Hey x3 from this special (The one you talked about)?

Here’s the opening part.
The title says 1998, but it is actually 1997. It’s the first 27 hour tv since fuji tv moved to their current hq in Odaiba.

This user has also uploaded the other parts. In some game parts, young Ninety-nine, cocorico and others also appeared.
