[quote="Vatican":akt3ahn1]Matsumoto has gotten his first local Kansai program in 21 years. Called ‘Matsumoto Family’s Rest Day’, it stars Matsumoto as the mum, Miyasako as the dad, Tamura Kenji as their first son and one of the writers as their first daughter. It will air from now on on late night Thursdays from 1:39 to 2:14. Home page is here: [url:akt3ahn1]http://www.asahi.co.jp/matsumoto/[/url:akt3ahn1][/quote:akt3ahn1]

I love Matsumoto and Miyasako, but I’m not sure about what I’m looking at.
Is it the kind of program where they go some place and just walk around looking at things and making comments? Why don’t they just go as themselves? They wear the family clothes and make up, but they talk normal and aren’t "in character" (at least in the few "jumps" I made while looking at the video)

Probably coz they want make something different, so we can’t exactly say "it’s like Gobu gobu or the summer thing".

My Japanese is still extremely poor, but wasn’t part of the deal with the second part of the second episode that they were on a "budget" which influenced what they could do? So maybe the idea for the program as a whole is that they’re not fully immersed into their characters but still following a general plot premise, or something similar?
I think they reference their characters a little but not overly so, just for comic relief when apt. For example when Matsumoto had to go to the Men’s toilets dressed as a woman Of course I had no idea what he was saying but it seemed like they made some joke about it.
Most of the old Youtube links are dead by now, so anyone who wants to see the early episodes should try the MioMio links on various owarai matome blogs.
MioMio isn’t very stable as a streaming service, but they aren’t based in Japan so copyright violation removals don’t seem to be a problem (at least for this show).

Just tried it out and it’s not just for this show. Saw a couple of 2013 Gaki episodes floating around and given that other sites like FC2, youtube and dailymotion can delete newer variety content much quicker, I think Miomio certainly can be depended on for now.
