Hey guys, I just received a package from Japan. I’ve been on spending spree on YahooJapan auctions.
I bought Downtown’s Hallelujah photobook, a book that looks like it’s from a stage show, and some doujinshi.
I’m glad I can finally share something with the community.
Everything is in rar files, so you will need something like winzip, or winrar to extract them.
I actually bought this cause of a interesting comment, Hamada made in a Friendly Downtown…unfortunately or fortunately he was kidding. i’m such a ドH After looking at these, I’ve noticed Matsumoto seems to only have one expression when he is photographed…
Hallelujah

I’m not really sure what this is from, but most of the Gottsu cast is there and one pic of Yamasaki was in this too. I only scanned the color photos, Downtown and others I recognized, cause most of the book was text and it’s really thick.

Here’s two of my four Downtown doujinshi. I would rate these PG for kissing. I do wonder where they get this version of Hamada from.

2Chome was the Osaka-based theatre that many comedians got their start at. It was owned by the Yoshimoto entertainment company and served as a base for members of their rookie comedians class NSC (New Star Creation). Downtown graduated from the NSC in 1983 but stayed on as senior mentors helping to run things I think and working towards advancing to Tokyo, which they later did with the help of a show they broadcasted from the theater in 1987 during the evenings via MBS 「4時ですよーだ」.
New management from Hiroshi Osaki in 1985 started a new program calling for comedians. Which brought in other members you’d recognise from Gottsu such as Higashino Koji etc.
Yamazaki joined the NSC in 1987 and formed the duo Team Zero in 1988, they performed at the theater too. But not long after in 1989 they advanced to Tokyo. 3 months later Downtown also advanced to Tokyo and started Gaki no Tsukai.
(P.S. where’s the photo of Zaki-san in the book? I couldn’t seem to spot him )
As part of Yoshimoto’s 100 Years Anniversary celebrations there was a play staged about the 2 Chome theatre and the launching of the 1985 program. Actors played Downtown and Mr Osaki the manager was played by Yamasaki. Endo also acted in it as a character written for the play. There’s info here with a documentary that includes some video clips of Downtown, Yamazaki, Higashino etc. acting on stage there:

Oh wow, thanks so much for the info. I ended up not scanning the pic of Yamasaki, cause it was so small(almost missed him). My hand was starting to hurt from holding the books on my scanner too.

Yep, It’s my favorite Friendly, all because Takashi picked Hamada to speak casually with(love when people go against the usual), and Hamada looked like he was having genuine fun.
