Huh.
But this is just his stage name. His wife and kids aren’t going to take the Tsukitei name too. Right? And since this was announced after filming next year’s batsu game I assume he’ll still be called Yamasaki during the batsu game.
Do you think this is just for his stage solo career? I mean if other members were to have alternate names for their comedy career would they still call them by their real name on the Gaki no Tsukai show?

I hope it’s only for his solo career. I can’t imagine the gaki members talk about him "Tsukitei Hosei-san" (at least, Hosei is still here… :'D)
That’s going to be a tough transition for me. I will be calling him Yamazaki for quite some time. The other name does not have the right ring to it
in my opinion.
It is traditiion for rakugo artists to take the name of their master. For instance Shoufukutei Shohei took the name Shoufukutei of his master.Since rakugo artists have often more than one pupil, some artists have the same name e.g.Shoufukutei Shohei and Shoufukutei Tsurube. http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Shoufukutei_Tsurube
So it is not that surprising that Yamazaki changed his stage name.
It’s kind of strange to see him performing alone since his position in Gaki is so dependant on other members’ reactions. I wonder if the guys will keep calling him Yama- or Zaki-chan or start calling with some other title.

The prologue stories that I could understand were pretty funny.
Still, rakugo is definitely much harder to appreciate than manzai because of the slower pace.
Can anyone understand these articles? It’s about the name change but they go on to talk about Downtown "Yama-chan", talking with Nihon TV about the name change, and the New Years Special, it seems Yamazaki made some comment about the use of the name (according to Google anyway). It may be nothing new or extra, or maybe just speculation/discussion from the article writers and not straight from Yamazaki though, sorry, I have no skills in reading Japanese.

I hope they keep it but I guess the New Years Special will be the last hearing it The atmosphere of the Gaki no Tsukai shows seems informal, "between friends", plus there is the running gag of him being treated as "inexperienced" regardless of any facts to say otherwise, so was hoping they’d use his real name but sometimes refer to the graduated career title.

I think Yamazaki has a nice ring to it too. He’s become my favourite of the cast.

Apparently, it says that the name "Yamazaki" will be used last on this year’s batsu game. After that, Yamazaki won’t use it anymore, in any program. This goes for Gaki as well. However, Downtown still call him Yama-chan in the first episodes for next year. So we’ll probably see some plays using this next year on!
Thank you inshun. I appreciate it! That really does confirm it then for the Gaki shows.
I wonder if they’d do a Goodbye Yamasaki skit and then at the end he comes back as Tsukitei.
Gonna be strange hearing it…

Agreed, I hope they address it on a Batsu or something and maybe poke fun, because it’s a little weird for the uninitiated.
