Yeah, thats an experiment he did to do a "comedy without words". It’s weird to say the least haha but I think it suits him since a lot of Housei’s comedy can be understood without words due to his gesturing etc. I’ve always thought he would do well in the silent comedy era for that reason along the likes of Charlie Chaplin etc. I love the trigger with the guy putting paint on him, their expressions are so funny and really does say everything.
As for the song, someone already posted it in the Youtube comments:

Google "gymnopedie" and you’ll find it.
I agree with the silent comedy, sometimes he makes me think of Benny Hill !

Haha, yeah some of his expressions are somewhat similar.
That bit in the batsu after he was slapped by Chono on the bus and is sat on the steps, you see him putting on a gormless dizzy face (and the rest of the cast is like, what the heck haha). It’s so much like a form of miming comedy.
I think he reminds me of Norman Wisdom’s character Norman Pitkin. He always played the fool and the character is sometimes defined as a "gump" which is perhaps close to the Japanese "hetare" (incompetent) that Housei was first called in a derogatory way but then made it part of his comedy routine. Here’s Norman Wisdom about to be interviewed in the 80s by Terry Wogan, I reckon he meant to do that pratfall but he makes it look natural:

Both are characters forever down on their luck, getting into all kinds of trouble or being bullied. Bumbling and tumbling about through life, taking the scrapes and moving on regardless. Trying to fruitlessly argue and win against those who antagonise them whilst also retaining a kind gentle demeanour with others. Plus of course both are lovable for their fallacies, Pitkin is adorable.
Another British comedian he makes me think of is Lee Evans. He’s a standup comedian, a lot of his comedy involves physical gesturing, expressions and frantic movements etc. This is partly due to the fact he has very bad stagefright, keeping moving seems to get him through it, during performances he ends up visibly sweating profusely and drenching his clothes. He also acts the fool a lot, like pretending to turn up on the wrong stage and having to fumble through the audience to get to the correct one.

Thanks, I didn’t know Lee Evans, this video is not bad at all ! It reminds me of Rowan Atkinson’s invisible drum kit, but that’s another topic haha.

Oh yeah, Rowan Atkinson is great. And of course his famous Mr Bean character is very much like silent comedy.
Soudou, the great master, thanks for this compilation!
thanks to this, not only I got to know more about Housei-san’s work, but I finally found a video of the Cocorico hide and seek show (Million Kazoku). I was looking for this for AGES.

Thank you, I’m glad you’ll enjoy the thread.
Yeah Million Kazoku episodes seem surprisingly hard to find (unless they had some popular idol in them sadly). I’d still love to see others that had Housei as a guest like the one in the forest etc. All contributions to the thread are welcome if anyone finds anything (in the first post is a list with airdates of some of the things he’s credited for, not comprehensive of course though).
Just goes to show someone needs to make a Cocorico Compilation thread to collaborate on hunting down their shows and TV appearances!

I wish I had the abilities to do that… I am a big fan of Cocorico. if I become a comedian at NSC, I wish to have Cocorico as my mentors.

There’s not much ability required, so if you’d like to, go for it
I started with browsing Housei’s Japanese Wiki page and went from there. Here is the one for Cocorico (link goes directly to the section about what shows they hosted / appeared on):
Each of them also have individual Wiki pages with a filmography on them:
Endo Shozo:
Tanaka Naoki:
http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E7%94%B0% ... C.E5.93.81I’ve also found out recently that if you add "-ガキの使い" (gaki no tsukai with a minus sign infront of it) to a Google search, it’ll ignore all Gaki related results. Super handy for searching for their work (as a duo, or as individuals) outside of Gaki.
For example:
ココリコ -ガキの使い
遠藤章造 -ガキの使い
田中直樹 -ガキの使い
Another tip for Google is using the Search Tools dropdown to filter results. The "duration" one is handy for videos, when you want to only look for full episodes (30 mins ~ an hour) and not short clips people have made. Nowadays I often use "past week" or "last 24 hours" filters incase anyone recently posted something interesting.
I’m happy to help in any way to get you started if you wanted it, so feel free to private message me if you ever have a need.
thanks again, buddy. but I’m at my final Univeristy year. so I’ll be busy as hell this year. I took the notes and maybe I can start it later.

I understand, University is way more important. I’ve also been really busy lately. Best of luck with graduation!
Wow, all of you made me want to watch Mr. Bean again. I Haven’t seen those videos in a while, so I’m going to be watching them until someone start to sub the newer Gaki episodes

Heh, have fun. If you’re not aware of it already I reccomend also checking out Rowan Atkinson’s more quick-witted persona Blackadder. It’s a testament to his acting ability that he could play such a polar opposite comedic character.

Are those the comedic skits where Hugh Laurie makes appearances? Because I think I saw one video of it.

Yeah. Blackadder is comprised of 4 series (and a few specials), each one set in different time periods with recurring actors. Hugh Laurie played the role of the idiot prince in the 3rd series and an equally dopey Lieutenant in the 4th series set during World War 1.
I think I saw one of those episodes because of an image I found on Facebook pointing that out.

Oh geez not MBS again!! Tim to endure Fengy-whatever site again.
At least I may of found something easier to record my desktop with using Open Broadcaster Software (setting it to save to a file instead of streaming). Been recording a game on my desktop with it recently and seems nice. https://obsproject.com/
My previous attempt with VLC and some addon came out with messed up resolution and FPS issues… Not really sure how to use it too well.
Here’s hoping I can record whatever this thing is next Wednesday.
But that recorder is used mainly for Gaming Reasons!
Although you can post over here the results of the finnished video.
By the way, here’s a link for the MBS channel

Yeah, thats how I learned about it. I watch Twitch.TV (gaming broadcasting site) and a lot of people there use it
But basically it is just a recorder software like Bandicam, Fraps etc., so it doesn’t really matter if its a video or a game.
Since its open-source some have also developed addons specifically for capturing stuff on webpages. Because when people are streaming a game on Twitch.TV they also like to display the webchat etc.
I have only used it to record a Flash SWF game so will have to experiment more.
Tutorial on using OBS to record web browser page stuff:

Thanks. I think both Fengy-thing and this just embed Kukuplay though. But it seems you can get the Kukuplay SWF embed on its own without the surrounding website as andylau-fr posted:
